Neil Fisenden

Flute Tuition

Neil Fisenden has been and continues to be one of Australia’s most sought after Flute Teachers for over three decades.

Many of Perth’s and indeed Australia’s most well known flautists and educators have, at some stage, been Neil’s students.

Following on from a family tradition of excellence in Music Education, Neil has been fully involved in the music education industry in Australia catering to all level of students from beginner to fully professional artists.

His teaching style is always focused on the specific needs of each individual and aimed at guiding the student toward their highest musical potential. Not satisfied to merely offer a technical and musically based pedagogy, Neil is committed to providing a total mentoring package.

“Performance, examination opportunities and ensemble playing are all vitally important areas for any student of the performing arts.

Consistency is also vital. To this end,

I fully embrace the notion of regular lessons, with a commitment from the student to a regular and disciplined practice routine in order to support steady and sustained progress.

A solid “Classical Based” traditional styled course of study is generally recognized as essential for any serious student to follow best practice achievement before any specialized niche musical styles are embraced.”

Neil offers lessons on a one on one basis, i.e: one hour weekly lessons based on a 4 x 10 lesson scenario.

For further details and information, please contact Neil to make an appointment for interview.

One off intensive sessions are also available for examination/audition preparation

Every element of the individual’s needs is carefully nurtured and developed in a caring and positive environment.

Neil’s professional experience as Principal Flautist of both the Adelaide and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, as well as University based teaching experience for over 30 years, has given him the kind of invaluable hands on experience to be fully equipped to meet every possible challenge. Indeed Neil has taught at all levels- Tertiary, Secondary and Primary. Neil is equally comfortable across all levels and age groups.

As a senior woodwind examiner for the AMEB for 30 years, Neil has also been involved  with relative and comparative assessment across all levels of examination.

The period of time Neil spent studying in Japan (Suzuki Institute –Flute) and in London with London Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Flautist, Peter Lloyd, has also added international perspective to his teaching methodology.

Neil is a great believer in “Self Analysis” in helping to develop a well rounded musical education. To this end , Neil employs the latest developments in technologically based teaching aids in order to facilitate this learning process (e.g Smart Music and video analysis teaching aids).

Incentive is often the greatest encouragement and inspiration to learning and Neil is thus committed to encouraging involvement in actuating what is learned into real musical performance situations.
